Hermosa Beach is a true beach community-full of sun, fun, surf, sand and has a gentle breeze that blows from the ocean to help keep this city smog free 360 days of the year. "Hermosa," which means "beautiful," incorporated in 1907, has almost 2 miles of the prettiest, cleanest beach in Southern California and it´s only 5 miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Because of its mild weather, Hermosa Beach is an ideal vacation spot year around. The county beachfront path stretches south from Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance to north of Hermosa Beach through Manhattan Beach over 20 miles up to Santa Monica and is traveled by foot, bicycle, roller blades and skateboards. The beach here at Hermosa is a training ground for some of the world´s best pro-circuit volleyball players. And if that isn´t enough, you can surf and boogie board the waves, as well as body surf and swim, build sand castles or just work on your tan. Often, you might even watch movies or TV commercials being made here at the beach or on the Strand or in vintage restaurants and cocktail bars. Take a stroll on the Strand, which has a view from Palos Verdes to Malibu and dine "al fresco" enjoying dinner and cocktails at one of the beachfront restaurants while you watch the brilliant sun drop into the Pacific Ocean. Fine dining, beachside snacks to down-home cooking-it´s all here. The nightlife in Hermosa Beach is lively and vibrant-well known for it´s happening nightlife. Choices range from gut wrenching laughter at the nationally famous Comedy and Magic Club, to dancing at the Lighthouse on Pier Avenue, to listening to live music at other nightclubs, such as Café Boogaloo on Hermosa Avenue, to singing at some of the piano bars and finally to watching a high class theatrical production at the Performing Arts Center in Hermosa. This is just a small sampling of a city rich in nightlife. Fiesta Hermosa is an arts and crafts fair, held twice a year on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends bringing over 100,000 visitors and has put this town on the map. Scattered from the south end to the north end of the beach are a variety of boutiques and specialty shops all within walking distance of the scenic 1228-foot pier at the end of Pier Avenue, where you can fish year around.
